Because of its fruity-bitter taste it is mostly used as an aperitif or in cocktails. Aperol is preferably drunk pure, on ice or with soda, but is also a popular basis for numerous mixed drinks, as this bitter speciality harmonises perfectly with many ingredients such as orange or grapefruit juice, tonic water, champagne or sparkling wine and a variety of spirits.
