This bizarre piece of British history is a World War 2 baby gas mask!

In 1938, the British government anticipated poison gas attacks akin to those seen on the battlefields of the First World War. As part of the nation's civil defense initiatives, masks were distributed to the public - including this model, designed for children up to 2 years old.

The baby would be placed so they could peer out the visor, while the canvas would be strapped around the baby's body and under its bottom like a diaper. Their legs would dangle below.

The mother would pump the rubber tube to feed air into the mask, and an asbestos filter is in place to absorb the toxins.

**PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL ASBESTOS CONTENT IN THE FILTER**

This mask measures ~19 tall, excluding the dangling strap.

We can ship this specimen worldwide.
