Tokyo-based German reporter Peter (Thomas Kretschmann) hears that an uprising is happening in Gwangju, South Korea, and sets off to investigate the incident, which is not being covered in Korean news. Man Seob (Song Kang Ho) is a widowed taxi driver who struggles to pay rent while taking care of his 11-year-old daughter. When he learns that a foreigner is offering a large sum of money for a taxi driver, Man Seob takes the job without hesitation and drives Peter from Seoul to Gwangju, not realizing that the besieged city is under lockdown. When they finally make it into Gwangju, Man Seob and Peter find themselves in the midst of a massive student-led demonstration and the government's violent crackdown.

This edition comes with a 136-page booklet, a script card, a random character postcard, Peter's bag-design envelop, Peter's 12-page passport, a Man Seob's taxi driver identity plate, four film stills and special features including commentary, pre-production, read-through, character video, making-of, CG effects, outtakes, the story's origin, deleted scenes and trailer.
