CODEX SERAPHINIANUS by [Serafini, Luigi]: (1983)

CODEX SERAPHINIANUS by [Serafini, Luigi]: (1983)

Abbevillle Press, New York - 1983 - Small folio (35 x 24 cm). Black cloth, lettered in gilt and black. Heavily illustrated in color, with the text in facsimile of the fanciful manuscript. Fine in dust jacket. First US edition of this whimsical enigma by the Italian architect / designer, first published in 1981 in a limited, two volume edition by Franco Maria Ricci. Presented as an encyclopedia of imaginary things, the Codex and its illustrations appear here in company with extensive text in an invented asemic language and orthography. In spite of the author/artist's categorical assertion that it is a wholly fanciful work, there have been a number of attempts to translate it and reveal its hidden meanings, a semblance of a Voynich manuscript for the 20thth century. - CODEX SERAPHINIANUS
